Dame District hosts music festival

For the third year running, Dublin hosts the independent Jack of Diamonds Rhythm and Roots Festival, August 15-17.

This year’s main events will be hosted by The Button Factory and Grand Social. Headline acts include Rackhouse Pilfer, The Eskies, Tupelo, Tucan, Gavin Glass and Prison Love. Dame Lane events will be entirely free of charge.

Throughout the weekend, Dublin’s first ‘Rock & Roll Conference’  will feature a Vintage Car Rally, Citywide Motorbike Ride and a Barbershop convention. The weekends festivities will take place throughout multiple Dame Street-centred venues.

This year’s festival is being run in association with the Carlow Brewing Company, O’Hara’s craft beers. The festival stages can be found in The Merchantile, Dame Court  – Shack of Diamonds outside stage – and The Sweeney Mongrel.

In addition to the Rock & Roll conference, the Backstage Pass exhibition at The Button Factory exhibits Irish photography over the last 40 years, with rare photographs from Liam Quigley and Colm Henry, and modern day music photography from Darren Farrell. See expressive portraits of a host of artists, including Thin Lizzy, U2, Horslips, The Boomtown Rats, Tom Waits and the late Barney Mc Kenna, Chet Atkins and Rory Gallagher.

Taking its name from Rory Gallagher’s rendition of the traditional American ballad, The Cuckoo, the Jack of Diamonds Rhythm & Roots Festival  promises over 100 live acts, performing in the fields of folk, blues, trad, rockabilly and roots.
